I had so much fun with these. I’m up to my eyeballs in edits for my upcoming novel so I’ve kept things short and sweet this week. If you enjoyed (any of) them, you can always like, comment or re-stack to spread the word.
Speed bumps
After their successful speed dating session, they walked together to the door. He slapped his forehead and said, “oh, sorry, forgot to mention I can’t go any further.”
The Goodbye
Mourners threw flowers and some dirt onto the surface of the coffin as it was lowered into the hole. They couldn’t hear the screams or the knocking.
Spooning
“Mm, that’s nice,” I said as I felt arms wrap around me. Then I remembered I lived alone.
Mary
“Who’s that for?” I asked my five year old as she sealed the envelope.
“For Mary– she lives in the attic.”
Teenagers
I thought the symbols everywhere were just my son’s way of being edgy. That was until I found the bodies.
New pet
She traced the muddy prints and claw marks up to the bathroom.
“Honey,” she asked, knocking on the door, “did a dog get in last night?”
Face time
I rinsed the soap off my skin and looked into the mirror at the pale, damp face before me. It wasn’t mine.
Down boy
The dog jumped onto the bed and started licking my face. When I rolled over, I saw that my actual dog was whining and backing into a corner.
Play date
The detective gasped when the door slammed shut behind him. The dolls seemed to move closer with every blink.
Exorcism
“Father Vincent, have you ever been called out to an exorcism?” I asked excitedly.
“Yes. Yours,” he said.
Fun, but I think true horror has to have some realism. Like stepping on a hairball, and then looking down and realizing you've been tracking something much worse around your apartment. All over your white carpeting. /ᐠ。‸。ᐟ\
These were such a great read. "Goodbye" or "Spooning" were my favorite. I'm very much getting into horror lately.
