Don't read this if you have a pet.
Horror | Micro Fiction | Round Up
This month I’m doing #Spooktober over on Instagram. I’ve challenged myself to share a microfiction every day. I’m also sharing the highlights of the week in my Friday Fiction email for you to enjoy, also.
Facial
I rinsed the soap off my skin and looked into the mirror at the pale, damp face before me.
It wasn’t mine.
New Stew
The stew was unlike anything I’d ever tasted before.
I was enjoying it until I found the bell from Stewie’s collar in my mouth.
Break
In the small hours, when the house was sleeping, Jill would wake alone. She would walk up the and down the stairs until the clock struck one, when she knew what would happen next. With ambition, she’d cross the landing. She didn’t see it then and she didn’t see it now.
Like Jack, she tumbled, the break in the same place as it ever was.
‘That bastard roller skate,’ she thought.
Mary
“Who’s that for?” I asked my five year old as she sealed the envelope.
“For Mary—she lives in the attic.”
#Spooktober from around Instagram.
The Last Nap by
I love that we have another pet-themed story to share today. Nissa has been posting a microfiction daily on her Instagram feed and it’s been really tough choosing a favourite.A fun fact about Mary.
That little micro story was the inspiration for The Spider. If you love stories about hauntings, historical thrillers and Gothic Horror, you might want to grab yourself a copy of the first novel in the Muldoon Mysteries series.

I’ve just finished Transference by
and Hallway by . I recommend both books! You can see my Goodreads reviews for them here.Currently reading: Blackfern Girls by
and Ramses The Damned by Anne Rice.I’m still making the final touches to The Shade In The Sands And Other Stories and I never thought I’d be doing a short story collection in 2025. I can’t wait to share this one. There will be two featured stories that you haven’t seen before, and I had so much fun writing them. Release day is the 5th of December!
That’s all for this week! Have a great weekend.
Thanks for reading. If you enjoyed any of these microfictions, be sure to let me know with a like, share or a comment so others can discover my work, too. !
If you really like my fiction, I currently have three novels out in the world. You can see them here.

Another fun collection! And I completely agree, Micros can definitely be a great way to help you discover ideas that can grow into bigger things... 😎
