“Ah! Amazing.” Hayley flung her jacket on the nearest chair and collapsed face down onto the bed with a sigh as Paul closed the door and put the bags down. “I’m so glad we did this. Great idea.” She smiled and closed her eyes, starfishing in the middle of the king sized bed.
The window was open, gently wafting the voile curtains away from the bay windows and airing the small but homely room they’d been able to snag at the last minute on a bank holiday weekend.
She inhaled the reassuring scent of the sea and listened to the cries of the sea birds.
She groaned as firm but gentle hands massaged her shoulders. “That’s nice.” She said faintly, smiling, still closing her eyes. “I’ll just relax then, shall I?” She giggled. Hayley continued to make pleasing, relaxed noises as the massage intensified in places and loosened many of her work-induced knots. “Oh that’s lovely.” She groaned again.
She froze when she heard the key turn in the lock. Her eyes were wide and alert as she jumped up and stood at the edge of the bed to see Paul coming in through the door.
“You’ve got to pay a fiver to use the kettle! Robbing bastards.” He closed the door behind him and dropped the keys on the sideboard. “You all right?” He asked. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
