A Work Of Fiction Starts Here
This is that post that explains what I'm here for and where you can find my stuff. Read it.
Thank you for popping over to A Work Of Fiction. I started writing a novel in February, 2024. I just threw myself at it because, why not? I’m Hanna and I’m here to entertain you. Social media is in the bin, mostly. Welcome to Substack.
I’m an author of science fiction, fantasy, horror, flash fiction and micro fiction. I can’t resist a ghost story.
I’m committed to this thing. After only a couple of months I’d forged relationships with readers that I hadn’t previously thought possible. I wasn’t even sure if there was a place for fiction on Substack but there absolutely is!
I’m currently writing Oceanus, a science fiction retelling of The Tempest.
Gripped by an inescapable pull of gravity, the SS Demeter floats helplessly in orbit around a newly discovered earth-like planet. The crew have vanished leaving all but one man behind. Survivors on the planet find themselves separated and forced to face the substance of their own dreams and nightmares. Unbeknownst to them, they are being watched. Oceanus tells a classic story of betrayal, forgiveness, love and deception.
I feel the need to leave my mark on science fiction in particular not just as a fan but as a woman. A lot of women I’ve known in my life think sci-fi is just for men or nerds. I may be a nerd, that’s fine. There are many worthwhile stories to read in the world of science fiction. Not all of them are about robots, laser guns and mad scientists. Not all science fiction is about post-apocalyptic earth or dystopian societies that eliminate rights of individuals. It can be fun. It can be an adventure. It can be moving.
I’m so happy to be here and I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I love writing and being able to share it with you is an honour.
You don’t have to subscribe to support my work. Substack isn’t for everyone. If however you do like my work and want to support it, I now have a virtual tip jar when you want to give a monetary thumbs up.
What you’ll get from me when you subscribe for free.
I publish each chapter of my serial novel every Sunday, straight to your inbox for your reading pleasure.
I share flash fiction every Friday straight to your inbox. I’m not going to steal too much time from you so expect them to range from 100-1500 words. Sometimes, I may have a special edition. For example, throughout April I’m competing in a writing competition so you’ll get to see what I’m working on for each challenge.
What you’ll get from me as a paid subscriber.
When my serial novel is finished, it will be published as an e-book. All paid subscribers will be able to claim a free copy of the e-book when it is released as a thank you for your support during the process.
I’m also working on an anthology, 30 days of ghosts which will be a collection of my best flash fiction ghost stories. They’re perfect for those moments you can snatch during a busy day, a lunch break or the commute. Again, paid subscribers will be offered a free e-book on release because they wouldn’t be written without your support.
As a paid subscriber, you’ll also have access to the entire archive of flash fiction stories, forever.
By choosing to financially support my work, you enable me to write more with the time I can afford to dedicate to it. It’s that simple.
What you’ll get from me as a founding member:
All of the above as well as a dedication in the books that I publish, obviously! That support is not going to go unnoticed.
